Bulacan holds ICT conference and exhibit

CITY OF MALOLOS- Approximately 700 Bulakenyo high school and college students gathered for the 2012 Bulacan Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Conference and Exhibit-an ICT Road Show with a theme “Harnessing ICT for a Smarter Countryside” held at Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center yesterday morning in this city.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said the conference aims to boast the positive image of information technology-business processing outsourcing industry in Bulacan.

“Bulacan is one of the top 10 next wave cities in the country. Dapat ay lalo pa natin hasain at pag-ibayuhin ang kaalaman ng mga Bulakenyo ukol rito dahil ito ay makatutulong sa pag-unlad ng ating lalawigan,” the governor said.

Provincial Cooperative and Economic Development Office head Jovito Saguinsin said the next wave cities are cities wherein a city or area’s environment, location and manpower are perfect for IT industry.

“Gusto ng Pamahalaang Panlalawigan ng Bulacan na mapalakas ang IT sa probinsiya kung kaya bukod sa mga estudyante, inimbita rin natin ang mga guidance counselor at parent-teacher association officers para sila mismo ay hikayatin ang mga kabataang Bulakeńo sa larangan ng IT,”added Saguinsin.

Meanwhile, Dr. Yanga’s Colleges Inc. Prime as one of the ten exhibitors showed off their winning robots in the recently held World Robot Olympiad.

Aside from the testimonials of the IT professionals, Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-ICT Deputy Executive Director Monchito Ibrahim and Business Processing Association of the Philippines Senior Executive Director for Talent Development Gigi Virata presented the government and private sector perspectives regarding ICT industry and the next wave cities’ respectively.

Bulacan ICT Conference and Exhibit is a joint project of the Provincial Government of Bulacan, DOST-ICT, National ICT Federation of the Philippines and Bulacan ICT Council.###
