Bulacan commemorates 112th anniversary of the Malolos Republic

CITY OF MALOLOS – The Bulakenyos celebrated with pride the 112th founding anniversary of the First Philippine Republic also known as Malolos Republic at the historic Barasoain church here last Sunday, January 23.

Filled with honor and love for his roots, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado called on the Filipino people to keep alive the heroism, sacrifices and wisdom of our revolutionary forefathers.

He said, Filipinos, especially the Bulakenyos should not forget the honor brought by the birth of the First Philippine Republic in the province therefore placing Bulacan in the rich history of the country.

“Nasa ating mga palad ngayon ang pagkakataong pairalin ang isang pamahalaan at hubugin ang isang lipunan ayon sa mga pangarap, mithiin at lunggati ng mga bayaning nag-alay ng buhay, dunong, yaman, giting at panahon para sa kinabukasan ng ating henerasyon at hindi sa pita, pakana at patibong ng mga taksil at dayuhang mananakop na sumabilat ng ating dangal, kasarinlan, soberanya at dignidad bilang isang malayang sambayanan dito sa Malolos ng dakilang lalawigan ng Bulacan,” Alvarado added in his message.

Also present in the said commemoration were Department of Tourism Regional Director Ronaldo Tiotuico, Malolos City Mayor Christian Natividad, Vice Mayor Gilbert Gatchalian and board members Michael Fermin, Allan Robes and Therese Cheryll Ople of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

Other guests include MW Nicolas Ricafrente, past grand master of the Independent Grand Lodge of the Philippine Island, representative from national and local agencies like National Historical Commission of the Philippines and Department of Education.

Meanwhile, the Arte Bulakenyo Foundation, Inc. headed by Jo Clemente launched ”Bigkis: Sangang Daan sa Iisang Daan”, a new book that binds the rich cultural and historical heritage and significant contribution of the provinces of Bulacan and Pampanga in the pursuit of Philippine independence from colonial rule. ###
