CITY OF MALOLOS- Bulacan Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado led the distribution of 11,380 batons to selected barangay tanods to ensure that all barangay peacekeepers have protection while sustaining a peaceful and orderly community.

In the turnover ceremony held recently, the barangay tanods express their appreciation for the new batons saying it will not only save their lives while performing their duties but also the lives of their constituents.

The Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB) lauded the heroic effort of these barangay tanods that despite their little honoraria and lack of adequate resources, still they continue to provide untiring service to the people in their community.

According to the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) head Rowena Joson- Tiongson, only 20 barangay tanods from each barangay were selected to be given new batons while the remaining tanods in excess of the 20 will be shouldered by the municipal government.

Non-government organizations were also tapped and supported the distribution of new batons to all barangay tanods in the three cities and 21 towns in the province.

Meanwhile, PGB thru the PSWDO is now distributing PhilHealth cards to these barangay tanods which they can use for health and life insurance and burial assistance. ###
