Bulacan lines up activities on February 3 to honor Ople

CITY OF MALOLOS – Come February 3, 2013, Bulakenyos led by Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado and Vice Gov. Daniel Fernando will gather at the Capitol Compound to commemorate the 86th birth anniversary of the late Gat Blas F. Ople.

Alvarado said the Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB) through the Provincial Youth, Sports, Employment, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office has already set a series of activities that will begin with an offering of flowers at the Ople monument, Sentro ng Kabataan, Sining at Kultura ng Bulacan and a short program to mark the occasion in front of the Gat Blas Ople Building at eight o’ clock in the morning.

Family members of the Ople clan is expected to grace the event as well as the heads and employees of the capitol.

Board Member Felix Ople, the great statesman’s son, will give his “tugon” or brief message to be followed by a banquet.

Alvarado described Ople as one of the eminent sons of Bulacan whose leadership and wisdom is worth emulating.

Gat. Blas Ople was a Filipino journalist and politician who held several high-ranking positions in the executive and legislative branches of the Philippine government, including as Senate President from 1999 to 2000, and as Secretary of Foreign Affairs from 2002 until his death.

Ka Blas was also known as the “Father of Overseas Employment" and the author of the Philippine Labor Code.

Ople was born in Hagonoy, Bulacan on February 3, 1927 to Felix Antonio Ople, a craftsman who repaired boats, and Segundina Fajardo.

He had devoted decades of his life to selfless dedicated and sincere service to the country and people. ###
