CITY OF MALOLOS— Anchored to the theme “Ambagan Tungo sa Malawakang Kaunlaran,” the Provincial Government of Bulacan together with thousands of Bulakeños will commemorate the 115th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence on June 12, 2013, 8:00 am at the Barasoain Church in this city.

This years’ celebration will highlight the historic events that took place in Malolos and will also deepen the awareness of Bulakeños as well as the Filipinos regarding the significance of Barasoain Church which is among the three historic sites in the country.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said joint effort will do more than doing things alone.

“Hindi natin makakamit ang kalayaan kung hindi nagsama-sama at nagtulung-tulong ang ating mga dakilang bayani. Kung nagawa nila noon na labanan ang mga mananakop magagawa natin ngayon na sama-samang labanan ang mga nagpapahirap sa lipunan, ang mga nagkukulong sa ating mga karapatan,” the governor said.

Alvarado together with other Bulacan government officials will lead the simultaneous raising of the Philippine flag at the patio of the Barasoain Church which will be followed by a wreath laying ceremony at the statue of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, president of the First Philippine Republic.

Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa, Jr. is also expected to grace the celebration as the guest of honor.

The event is made possible in cooperation with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP).

Independence Day (Araw ng Kalayaan) is an annual national holiday in the Philippines observed on 12 June, commemorating the Philippine Declaration of Independence from Spain on 12 June 1898. It is the country's National Day. ###
