CITY OF MALOLOS – Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado reported the health programs that were successfully implemented in his first term as the governor of Bulacan during his State of the Province Address or SOPA coinciding the formal opening of the eighth Sangguniang Panlalawigan last July 2, 2013 at the Sen. Benigno Aquino Session Hall in this city.

Among these projects were “Liwanag ng mata nyo’y alay namin sa inyo” wherein almost 12,000 Bulakenyos were given free eyeglasses and more than 2,000 were operated due to cataract.

With the help of the Philippine Band of Mercy and the efforts of the Baliwag District Hospital, more than 3,000 senior citizens were given free anti-pneumonia vaccines and more than 200 children with harelip and cleft palate were operated.

Also, more than 139,000 indigent families benefited in the free distribution of PhilHealth Insurance cards while 28,000 tricycle drivers were given free accident/death insurance under the ProtekTODA program.

”Nakapagpamigay din tayo ng mahigit 2,000 assistive devices katulad ng wheelchair, crutches, quadcane, nebulizer, BP apparatus, doppler apparatus, digital thermometer, at iba pa sa mga senior citizen at persons with disabilities,” said Alvarado.

The PGB is also prioritizing the nutrition needs of the Bulakenyos especially the children.

Meanwhile, in order to further address the health problems of Bulakenyos, 22 Barangay Health Stations, 12 Rural Health Units were built and the Bulacan Medical Center, 33 RHUs and district hospitals were renovated.

The Oncology Unit and palliative care unit in BMC were opened for cancer patients as well as the eye center for those who have eye problems. Further, 8,000 patients benefited from the free dialysis sessions available at the Hemodialysis Center for those with chronic kidney diseases.

Alvarado also highlighted the good impact of the massive campaign on having a healthy lifestyle.

He was also happy to report that more and more pregnant women are giving birth in public hospitals wherein from 49% it became 67% in 2012.

Due to the efficient and effective delivery of health services to Bulakenyos, the province bagged various health awards that include Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner On Nutrition (Crown) Award; Second Year - Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner on Nutrition (CROWN) Maintenance Award; Central Luzon Excellence Awards For Health 2012 – Award for Health Emergency Response (Health Governance Stewards Category) at Central Luzon Excellence Awards For Health 2012 –Award for Mother and Baby Friendly Hospital – Calumpit District Hospital (Health Governance Stewards Category).¬¬¬¬¬ ###
