CITY OF MALOLOS- For the second time, Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado was conferred the National Sandugo Award for Outstanding Local Government Executive today, September 25, 2013 at the Heritage Hotel, Pasay City.

Only three governors were given the award and Alvarado is pleased to share it with his constituents.

“Itong award na natanggap ko ay isang malaking karangalan hindi lang para sa’kin, kundi para sa lalawigan dahil ito’y isang patunay na aktibong nakikibahagi ang mga Bulakenyo para mapanatili ang pagkakaroon ng sapat na suplay ng dugo sa ating mga blood center at pagamutan,” Alvarado said.

The governor was awarded after accomplishing the criteria such as Personal Involvement and Commitment in the National Voluntary Blood Services Program (NVBSP) which include attendance to Mobile Blood Donation, Advocacy Events in the Promotion of Voluntary Blood Donation, TV appearances, radio talk and meeting, print and web news; Provision of Resources in the Promotion of Voluntary Blood Program; being instrumental for the high percentage of voluntary blood donation in his jurisdiction and; exemplary administrative actions in support of NVBSP.

Based on the records of the Provincial Public Health Office, a total of 25,678 units of blood were collected out of the 130 blood donation activities of LGUs, academes, companies, NGOs, religious organizations and other government offices in the province wherein 17, 203 of which came from Bulacan Provincial Blood Center and 6,133 came from donations in Red Cross-Bulacan.

PPHO head Dr. Jocelyn Gomez said that Bulacan Blood Center is operating 24 hours a day to provide quality and safe blood for Bulakeños in need.

“In 2012, the blood center issued 3, 424 blood units and components to Bulacan Medical Center, 2, 781 blood units to private hospitals, 728 blood units to district hospitals and 123 blood units to other government hospitals in Manila. Habang tumatagal lalong nakikita ng mga kalalawigan natin ang halaga nang pagbibigay ng dugo kasi nakikita din nila na marami ang nakikinabang, nakikita nila na mahalaga talaga ang dugo,” Gomez added.

Aside from Alvarado, other local officials that were awarded the same recognition were Mayor Enrico Roque of Pandi, Barangay Captains Raul Gatuz of Tabang, Plaridel, Manolito dela Cruz Sr. of Sipat, Plaridel and the hall of famer Barangay Captain Gerald Constantino of Sta. Ines, Plaridel. ###
