CITY OF MALOLOS- The Bulacan Multisectoral Alliance of the Provincial Government of Bulacan through the Provincial Public Health Office and Innovations and Multisectoral Partnerships to Achieve Control of Tuberculosis (IMPACT) Project conducted a two-day Strategic Planning Workshop at Holiday Inn, Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga recently.

In the said workshop, they presented the updates about the PGB programs to control TB in Bulacan, reiterated the importance of the alliance’s existence and the laid down the possible activities that each member can do.

Eugene Caccan Jr., team leader of IMPACT, said that MSA aims to strengthen the fight against TB because it is a public burden that needs public support.

“The MSA is an extra pair of hands ng PHO in the control of TB. Let us altogether erase the misconceptions na ang TB ay namamana, kumakapit sa gamit, pang-mahirap at nakakahiya. Ipaalam din natin sa publiko na ang mga libreng gamot sa mga TB Direct Observe Treatment Short Course o DOTS center ay hindi peke dahil mahabang proseso ang dinadaanan nito sa FDA, therefore they are effective,” Caccan said.

Caccan added that those who are residing in Geographically Depressed Area, inmates, elderly, children and indigenous people are vulnerable to TB and must also check the presence of TB in HIV.

According to World Health Organization, TB which killed 1.3 million people worldwide in the year 2013 is second to HIV/AIDS as a deadly disease due to single infectious agent.

Based on PPHO records, there were 2,566 individuals that have been evaluated and 90% of which were positively cured. Last year, 78% or 6, 821 Case Detection Rate or registered cases are currently under medication.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado also announced that the No Prescription No Drugs policy in Bulacan is already on the second reading of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

The PPHO added that there are eight TB DOTS center that give free TB medication in the Bulacan including Balagtas RHU, Bustos RHU I, Hagonoy RHU I, Paombong RHU I, Plaridel RHU II, Pulilan Municipal Maternity and Child Care Center, San Rafael RHU II, and Pandi RHU I.###
