CITY OF MALOLOS - In one with the Filipinos in commemorating the 116th National Flag Day today, May 28, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado walked the Bulakenyos through the days when the flag was sewed and unfurled for the first time to celebrate Philippine independence.

In his speech, Alvarado mentioned that the flag is important for it symbolizes glory, pride, valor, and sovereignty of the Filipinos.

Highlights of the program were the flag raising ceremony, pledge of loyalty to the Philippine flag, wreath laying ceremony, unveiling of the marker of Gat Marcelo H. Del Pilar’s monument and an interpretative dance presentation about the first unfurling of the national flag by Sining ng Bulakenyo.

Meanwhile, alongside the celebration the national Flag Day, Alvarado took a formal oath of office as chairman of the Regional Development Council III before Hon. Bienvenido L. Reyes, associate justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines.

The governor also vowed to do the best that he can in order to lead Central Luzon in achieving more progress and development.

Other guests who graced the event were PS Supt. OIC Ferdinand O. Divina, acting RDC Chairman and currently Regional Director of National Economic Development Authority Severino Santos, Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Ma. Theresa Arcega, Provincial Prosecutor Renato Samonte Jr. of Bulacan, Pandi Mayor Enrico Roque, Meycauayan City Vice Mayor Rafael S. Manzano, Jr..

The event is in accordance to Sections 7 and 26 of the Republic Act No. 8491 otherwise known as the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines that states that every May 28 of each year will be commemorated as the National Flag Day.

Also, it is stated in the code that the flag should be displayed on all public and private offices, agencies, schools and establishments all over the country from May 28 to June 12 or the Independence Day.###
