PGB recognizes Bulacan's centenarians

CITY OF MALOLOS - Sixty one centenarians age 100 and up were recognized by the Provincial Government of Bulacan during the Araw ng Pagkilala sa mga Sentenaryong Bulakenyo held last October 22, 2014 in line with the celebration of Linggo ng Nakatatandang Filipino at The Pavilion, Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center in this city.

With this year’s theme, “Ang Nakatatanda ay Yaman, Katuwang sa Pag-unlad ng Bayan, Pangalagaan kanilang Kapakanan”, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado and Vice Gov. Daniel R. Fernando led the awarding of certificates of recognition and appreciation as well as the distribution of P3,000 each financial assistance.

Around 700 participants attended the said activity wherein aside from centenarians, other senior citizens were also given free vaccines for the “Sabayang Pagbabakuna ng Anti-Flu & Anti-Pneumonia” program.

According to Liwayway Ignacio, Community Affairs Officer IV of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office and focal person for the senior citizens, 10 males and 51 females were recognized wherein the eldest is 107 years old.

Meanwhile, Alvarado encouraged all the Bulakenyos to have good health habits and make the centenarians their examples who reached their age strongly and healthily.

“We need to live a healthy or balanced lifestyle just like these centenarians who have something very inspiring and special about their lives. We regard these individuals as wonderful models of aging well kaya naman pag-iisipan natin ang posibilidad na madagdagan pa ang insentibong inyong matatanggap sa susunod na taon,” said the governor. ###
