CITY OF MALOLOS – Broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez-Roxas and Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado led hundreds of Bulakenyos in lighting the 50-foot giant Singkaban Christmas tree that illuminated the Capitol park this evening.

Featured in Sanchez’s ABS-CBN’s top-rating show, Rated K, the annual and traditional lighting of the said giant Christmas that signifies the start of Paskong Bulakenyo in the province aims to put Christmas closer to the hearts of Bulakenyos.

Served as the special guest, Sanchez-Roxas confessed that she already visited the province for six times in just a month as part of the celebration of 10th year anniversary of her program, Rated K, that also featured the rich cultural heritage and history of Bulacan in some of its episodes.

The broadcast journalist also hopes that the Bulakenyos’ giant Singkaban Christmas tree will serve as an inspiration and symbol of the continous development of the province.

Meanwhile, Alvarado said that the activity will definitely encourage Bulakenyos to celebrate Christmas season with love, joy, peacefulness and forgiveness, which is the true essence of the celebration.

Moreover, the giant Christmas tree is made up of intricate Singkaban bamboo arcs adorned with colorful decors like Christmas balls, lanterns, lights and flowers.

Prior to this, the first part of the program showcased the talents of Bulakenyos in the Konsierto ng mga Artistang Bulakenyo and also before the countdown to the lighting ceremony, the audiences were serenanded with Christmas carols by different chorale groups including BulSU Saringhimig with BulSU Lahing Kayumanggi.

The activity that was also attended by the local chief executives from the towns and cities of the province, non-government organizations and employees of the Capitol, ended with fireworks display that add color and glow to the festivity. Bulakenyos also enjoyed a free concert of MYMP brought by Globe Telecom.###
