CITY OF MALOLOS – Recognizing the hardships and the important roles of solo parents in the society, the Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB) through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) will honor the Natatanging Solo Parent 2014 in the Annual Solo Parent General Assembly on February 17, 2015 at The Pavilion, Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center in this city.

Bulacan Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said the general assembly aims to increase the awareness of the public about solo parent programs and to acknowledge outstanding single parents that strengthen his/her families’ foundation with their own parenting techniques.

“Dapat lang na mabatid ng ating mga kababayang solo parents na mayroon programa at benepisyong nakalaan para sa kanilang pamilya dahil hindi tayo papayag na hindi sila nabibigyan ng sapat na aksyon sa kanilang pangangailangan. They must be provided with necessary assistance,” Alvarado said.

According to PSWDO Head Rowena Tiongson, the winners of Natatanging Solo Parent 2014 must be a member of Solo Parent Association in their community; have more than three children; finished college degree within the time span of being a solo parent and an active member of their community.

Winners will receive a plaque of recognition and cash incentives worth P10,000 for the first place, P7,000 for the second place and P5,000 for the third place.

Tiongson also added that PSWDO will discuss the Solo Parent Accomplishment Report for 2014 and guarantees that they will continue to implement different programs to support solo parents and to help them cope with numerous challenges of solo parenting.

“Dito natin bibigyang pagpapahalaga ang mga huwarang solo parents at patuloy natin silang bibigyan ng prayoridad sa mga programa tulad ng Self-Employment Assistance (SEA) para makatulong sa kanilang kabuhayan at scholarships program para sa kanilang mga anak,” said Tiongson.

Also part of the event is the awarding of certificate to the towns and cities of the province that showed dynamic participation in the Malunggay Tree Planting Program of the Confederation of Solo Parents of Bulacan.

Moreover, Department of Social Welfare and Development Region III Director Gemma Borja Gabuya will grace the event as the guest of honor wherein 569 barangay solo parent presidents are expected to attend.
