CITY OF MALOLOS – Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II relived the memories of Marcelo H. Del Pilar and encouraged the Bulakenyos to continue fulfilling the challenges left by the great propagandist, during the commemoration of the hero’s 165th birth anniversary held at Dambanang Marcelo H. del Pilar in Barangay San Nicolas, Bulakan earlier today.

The secretary also said that generations in the past have accepted the challenge and the present generation is not about to turn it down, instead he believes that a better future is waiting with people with the same agenda and headed towards the same direction.

Moreover, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said that in this era where social media is rampant, Filipinos have an easier avenue to provide information, thus following the footsteps of Del Pilar.

Also, Marcelo Marasigan, the great, great grandson of Del Pilar thanked everyone for participating in the commemoration and still honoring his ‘Lolo Celo’.

The celebration began with a civic parade, followed with a program and wreath-laying ceremony led by Roxas and Alvarado together with Bulakan Municipal Mayor Patrick Neil Meneses.

Meanwhile, The National Press Club (NPC) headed by Joel Egco in partnership with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines launched the petition for the declaration of the birth of Del Pilar as a National Media and Press Freedom Day which was signed by hundreds of journalists and publishers from NPC and Katipunan ng mga Alagad ni Marcelo H. Del Pilar among others.
