CITY OF MALOLOS – “Make leaders in every young Filipino. Every day we must train our young people to make sure that they will learn from history,” Sen. Richard Gordon said during his speech in line with the 438th Bulacan Foundation Day held at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium in this city early this morning.

In his first ever public speaking engagement as a senator, Gordon stressed to the audience that being Filipinos first and Bulakenyos second, everyone should make a contribution to attain success.

“We do not have to be defeated by ourselves we can win this country back. Kung ikaw ay magaling na bata dapat babasagin mo unang-una ‘yung pader sa utak mo, na natatakot ka dahil mahirap ka and do and show the world what you can do. What this country needs is not a change of men but a change in men,” the senator said.

He also encouraged the Bulakenyos to draw a picture in their minds of what kind of a Filipino would they want to be for it is likely what they will become.

The senator also enumerated the many monikers that Bulacan is known for such as being the cradle of the Philippine Constitution, having reputable leaders and noble heroes, and was part of the rice granary of the Philippines.
Meanwhile, as Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado recalled how the province was founded, he shared some development plans for Bulacan that will also create history such as the recently concluded ground breaking of MRT 7, North Railway, and North Luzon Eastern Alignment among others.

“Walang ibang magandang pagkilala sa pagkakatatag ng ating lalawigan kundi ang patuloy na pagpapaunlad dito, at sabihin ng mga susunod na henerasyon na hindi tayo umasa lamang sa kaluwalhatian ng nagdaang panahon, kundi tayo ay lilikha rin at mabubuhay sa pag-asa at hamon ng pagdating ng kinabukasan,” Alvarado said.

Prior to this, Dr. Jaime Veneracion, a writer, professor and historian at the University of the Philippines shared the history of how Bulacan was founded and acknowledged the efforts of the leaders in making a one day celebration into a month of commemoration of the province’s heritage highlighted by the Singkaban Festival.

The celebration began with a holy mass, followed by a flag raising ceremony, oath to the national flag and wreathe laying ceremony at the monument of Marcelo H. Del Pilar.
