Modern-day Balagtasan to bring twist in KBS Rewaynd

CITY OF MALOLOS – The Provincial Government of Bulacan continues to prove that adapting to change and modernity is one of the strategic ways to preserve culture and tradition, hence it will stage a rap battle in the “KBS Rewaynd” or Kumpetisyong Bayan sa Singkaban that aims to promulgate the new form of poetry, this coming September 9, 2016 at The Pavilion, Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center in this city.

Eighteen young Bulakenyos ages 18-25 will showcase their impressive tongue-twisting poetry which are all adhered to the theme “Bulacan, Dangal ng Bansa! Lahing Bulakenyo, Ating Ibandila!” that aims to remind the youth about how rich Bulakenyo culture is, something that they should be proud of.

“Ang pagmamalaki sa ating mayamang kultura ay maitatampok sa mga paligasahan na tulad ng pag-awit, pagsayaw, balagtasan at makabagong pagbigkas. Hindi tayo magpapahuli na ipakita sa buong bansa na patuloy nating nape-preserba at nabibigyan ng pagpapahalaga ang ating tradisyon hanggang sa kasalukuyan,” Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said.

The governor also said that the competition, which is part of the weeklong celebration of Singkaban Festival, also aims to revive Filipino traditional songs and dances through “Awiting Makabayan and Katutubong Sayaw” competitions that will also showcase innate talents of the participants in the art of singing and dancing.

Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office Head Dr. Eliseo Dela Cruz said that 22 Bulakenyo students from Grade 1-7 will sing their hearts out in Awiting Makabayan while 11 contingents from secondary schools in the province will astound thousands of audience in Katutubong Sayaw.

Winners of the rap battle and traditional singing contest will receive trophies and cash prizes amounting to P15,000 for the first place; P10,000 for the second place and P5,000 for the third place.

Moreover, the first place in Katutubong Sayaw will receive trophy and P60,000 while the second and third place will receive P40,000 and P20,000 respectively.

The newly appointed Department of Education Secretary Leonor Briones is expected to grace the event as the guest of honor.
