CITY OF MALOLOS – The seal that symbolizes integrity and good performance in local government, better known as the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has been awarded once again to the Provincial Government of Bulacan because of its commendable governance practices that continuous to uplift the lives of its constituents.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado and Vice Gov. Daniel R. Fernando accepted the plaque of recognition and the SGLG award from Senator Juan Edgardo “Sonny’ Angara and DILG Secretary Ismael Sueno during the 2016 Philippine Local Governance Congress and SGLG Awarding Ceremony held at Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila, Pasay City, Thursday afternoon.

Alvarado said that it has always been a great honor for the province to be recognized as one of the outstanding provincial governments in Central Luzon that continues to exhibit good performance in internal housekeeping particularly on the core assessment areas of financial administration, business-friendliness and competitiveness and disaster preparedness.

“This award is a clear manifestation that the Provincial Government of Bulacan continues to exhibit trustworthiness and transparency in providing better services to the people. We will continue to keep doing what is best for our people and continue to aim high and go beyond limits,” the governor said.

Five municipalities from Bulacan including the town of Calumpit, Doña Remedios Trinidad, Guiguinto, Plaridel and San Rafael also received the Seal of Good Local Governance Award in the Municipal Category after passing the requirements in core and essential assessment areas including financial housekeeping, social protection, disaster preparedness, business-friendliness and competitiveness and peace and order.

The five outstanding municipalities also received plaques of recognition from the DILG.

Meanwhile, DILG revealed that out of 1,672 local government units assessed, only 306 of LGUs in the Philippines have met the minimum requirements of good governance.

All recognized LGUs will also receive Performance Challenge Fund from the DILG to finance development projects and programs as well as to response and provide services to the various needs of their constituents.

The SGLG award is the improved version of the Seal of Good Housekeeping Award launched by the late and former DILG Sec. Jesse Robredo in 2011 that recognizes outstanding LGUs with good performance in valuing the welfare of the Filipinos.
