CITY OF MALOLOS - Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado encouraged at least 5,000 college students from different universities and colleges in Bulacan to pursue their dreams with faith and dedication during this year’s Scholars’ General Assembly held at Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium yesterday.

He also persuaded the scholars to aim high to help build a bright future for the Filipino people.

“Ang kamangmangan ay nagdudulot ng pagka-alipin. Malaya tayo pero nandyan pa rin ang kamangmangan na dulot ng kahirapan. Kayo ang yaman ng ating lalawigan kaya marapat lamang na ipagpatuloy ninyo ang pakikibaka at huwag magpagupo sa panahon,” Alvarado said.

He said that the province is already gearing up to the challenges of the modern world and they will be needed in the making of the engines of growth as well as leading the province and the nation in propelling it to greater heights.

Vice Gov. Daniel R. Fernando told the students to always think positive and to not lose the spirit. He also said that he believes that every single student present at the assembly has a bright future ahead of them.

“Definitely, you will be the hope of the land and some of you may soon become the leaders of our province and country. Always believe in your dreams and don’t say the word poor. Always think positive,” Fernando said.

He said they are lucky because the PGB and the national government have already laid the engines of growth that will spur more growth and development for the province.

Rep. Jose Antonio R. Sy-Alvarado of the First District for his part said that they are working so hard so that students all over the country can avail of free education in all levels.

The scholars received P5,500 for the students under Academic Scholarship and P3,000 for the Educational Assistance.

The assembly which was anchored on the theme, “Tulong Pang-edukasyon para sa Kabataang Bulakenyo!” was attended by scholars from Bulacan State University, Bulacan Polytechnic College and Bulacan Agricultural State College. It was held into two sessions, District I and III in the morning and District II and IV in the afternoon in order to accommodate the huge number of expected attendees.
