CITY OF MALOLOS - Government forces in Bulacan, specifically in the northeastern part of the province, are on alert after confirmed sightings of New Peopleís Army (NPA) this month in the town of DoŮa Remedios Trinidad and mountainous area in Umiray, Aurora, which is close to Bulacanís mountain town of Norzagaray.

Bulacan Acting Police Director Senior Supt. Romeo Caramat, Jr. disclosed this report during the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) meeting held at Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center in this city, Thursday morning.

Caramat informed PPOC Chairman Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado and Vice Gov. Daniel R. Fernando that the communist rebels were first spotted in Barangay Kabayunan, DRT last February 7.

Based on intelligence reports and sources that were verified by the 48th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army under the command of Lt. Col. Ramil Anoyo, the communist guerrillas were on procurement missions in which they bought clothes, combat boots, 100 bullet rounds of M203 grenade rifle and 10,000 rounds of M16 rifles.

Alvarado said that both the police and military should be vigilant since Bulacan has already been declared cleared of insurgents by the Philippine Army in 2013 during the time of AFP Chief Gregorio Pio Catapang.

He added that while no violent incidents have been reported for many years now, government troops must remain on alert and watchful especially that the NPA will mark its anniversary next month and might pull some surprises in the province.
