AREAS OF FORMATION

a. Spiritual Formation

It is our life of intimacy with Jesus who calls us, as we constantly experience Him in silence, solitude and communal celebrations or activities such as: daily celebration of the Holy Eucharist, praying the Liturgy of the Hours, Holy Rosary and Special Devotions. This relationship serves as the basis of our vocation to the priesthood; spiritual life takes priority and gives meaning to authentic formation.
Jesus inspires us to faithfulness and love, imitation and witnessing, availability and self-abandonment to God. Our active and creative participation in the Eucharist, liturgical celebrations and spiritual exercises fosters and deepens our communion with God and one another, in response to the call of Jesus.

b. Community Life

The ICMAS experiences discipleship in community as it shares the Lord and the Gospel, in activities that are specifically designed in response to its vision-mission. Some of these activities are: monthly family nights, annual intramurals, and community integrations. It also includes some of our daily schedules such as: doing our household chores, ground works and recreation time.
These activities and schedules promote a familial atmosphere within the community, that is rooted in its relationship with Jesus manifested in friendship, respect, trust and openness. Sensitivity to the needs of each member, nurtures, enriches, and develops each one’s capabilities to heighten the sense of mission and to become a man with a heart for others.

c. Intellectual Formation with Curricula

Formation of the future diocesan priests is one of the most demanding and important tasks for the future of the evangelization of humanity. The more explicit and fuller development of priestly vocation necessitates a sound intellectual formation. Hence, seminarians need an extensive and correct learning in the sacred sciences both as a firm foundation to faith and as tool for effective proclamation of the Gospel. And since the purpose of the seminary is to form true pastors for the ministry of teaching, sanctifying and guiding the people of God, the ICMAS Philosophical and Theological Schools of formation proposes clearly to its students the responsibility to apply themselves conscientiously and diligently to Philosophical and Theological Study.
Classes are held daily from 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. Since not everything can be discussed in lectures each one avails of the given free time for study period, reading of relevant matters and pursuance of intellectual development. A monthly fora, lectures, talks or symposia is scheduled to broaden seminarians’ knowledge on current issues related to their academic studied.
Seminarians preparing for a greater ministry of educating, teaching and deepening the spiritual life of the people of God in the future, are called to develop and update their knowledge through the help of the books, different reading and internet downloaded materials which are made available for seminarians through the ICMAS Library.
Cognizant to the significance and value of computers in the intellectual formation of seminarians, the computer room was put up under the maintenance of the Educational Affairs Committee for seminarians’ word processing, PowerPoint presentations and other computer related needs.

d. Pastoral Formation

While shaping the seminarian’s apostolic heart, the pastoral formation also caters to different institutions, parishes, pastoral work, and pastoral programs to respond to pastoral priorities set forth by the Church. Each class has a pastoral field assignment relative to their level of formation in the seminary.
