Bulacan Ligtas Tigdas team to conduct door-to-door vaccination

CITY OF MALOLOS- In an aim to mitigate the cases of measles in the country, the Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB) , thru its Ligtas Tigdas team will conduct an extensive vaccination against the said disease come April 4 to May to 4 this year.

This activity is in line with the nationwide campaign of the Department of Health (DOH) dubbed as “Ligtas sa Tigdas ang ‘Pinas” which kicked off in 1998 under the Philippine Measles Elimination Campaign, and continuously implemented every four years.

The said program aims to immunize all children ages nine months to below eight years old against measles and give booster doses to those who have already received measles immunization to reduce the pool of susceptible to the disease. They were children who were born from May 5, 2003 to July 4, 2010.

In Bulacan, approximately 611,242 children who belong to the high risk classification or 19.58 % of the province’s total population need to receive vaccination against measles.

The vaccination team, which is composed of health workers and volunteers in the province will conduct a house to house immunization against measles in every barangay as well as vitamin A and information dissemination.

Each visited barangay will receive a sticker and immunization card. If in case the child is not at home during the visit, the team will come back some other day to make sure that every Bulakenyo children will be vaccinated. After a month, deworming will be given to the children.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado expresses his full support in the program saying, “ang gawaing ito ay lubhang napakahalaga upang maiwasan ang anumang banta laban sa buhay ng mga Bulakenyo”.

According to the Provincial Public Health Office, 225 measles cases were reported last year wherein 62 has been proven positive of the measles virus. Also, 72 Rubella or German measles were recorded and at present, 44 measles cases all over the province were reported and 26 of them were positive of the said virus.

In addition, PGB will also launch “Batang Bulakenyo, Iligtas natin sa Tigdas” program to secure the safety of every young Bulakenyo against measles and to stay healthy at all times.

Moreover, a technical working group has already been established, which is headed by Gov. Alvarado, Vice Gov. Daniel Fernando with PPHO, Department of Health, Provincial Public Affairs Office, Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Education and Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office.

Prior to this, free vaccination against measles can be availed in all public hospitals and health centers. ###
