CITY OF MALOLOS – Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado thru the Provincial Agriculture Office spearheaded the rat control operation dubbed as “Daga’y puksain, Kita’y palaguin” in Pulilan and Baliwag in preparation for the coming of planting season.

This marks the beginning of continuous strategies to control and eradicate rats that destroy the crops of the farmers leaving them impoverished.
The province wide rat busting starts from May 17 until June 2011.

Records show that 16 towns are affected by the invasion of these rats including the municipalities from the first and second districts and the towns of San Ildefonso, San Miguel and San Rafael from the third district.

Also, Alvarado said that if the people of Bulacan will unite and be serious in its aim to decrease the rat population, it will bring more profit to the citizens and may help in the improvement of the farmers and fishermen’s lives.

Emilio Gonzales of Calantipay, Baliwag.

To further encourage the cooperation of Bulakeños, the Provincial Government of Bulacan will give incentives to barangays who will be able to kill not less than 30,000 rats. The first prize winner will take home P30,000, the second prize will get P20,000 and P10,000 for the third prize.

As proof, barangay residents who had caught and killed rats will bring the dried rat tails to their respective municipalities and will be given cash incentive in return.

Aside from crop destruction, rats also carry diseases like Salmonella at leptospirosis.###
