Bulacan commemorates National Flag Day

CITY OF MALOLOS - In accordance with the Executive Order 179 of 1994, the Provincial Government of Bulacan headed by Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado and Vice-Governor Daniel R. Fernando will commemorate the 113th anniversary of the National Flag Day on May 28, 2011, 8am, in front of the capitol building.

The said activity aims to relive the first unfurling of the Philippine National Flag on Philippine soil after the Battle of Alapan in Imus, Cavite where the Philippine Revolutionary Army lead by General Emilio Aguinaldo defeated the Spanish Army on May 28, 1898.

From May 28 to June 12 of each year, all offices agencies and instrumentalities of goverment, business establishments, institutions of learning and private homes are enjoined to display the flag.

Moreover, the flag should not be displayed in cockpits, dance halls and centers of vice; should not be used as unveiling material in unveiling ceremonies; and tattered, faded or worn-out flags should be replaced immediately.

Highlights of the activity include the oath of allegiance to the national flag by the Boy Scout of the Philippines and wreath laying ceremony by the guest of honor, Sen. Teofisto DL. Guingona III.

Other expected guests are representatives from the four districts of Bulacan namely Congresswoman Ma. Victoria R. Sy-Alvarado, Cong. Pedro M. Pancho, Cong. Joselito R. Mendoza, Cong. Linabel R. Villarica, Cong. Arthur B. Robles, Mayor Donato D. Marcos, president of the Mayors’ League-Bulacan, town/city mayors and Mr. Mariano De Jesus, president of Bulacan State University. ###
