CITY OF MALOLOS- The Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB) through Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado, Vice Gov. Daniel Fernando and members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan refuted the wrong information that has been reported on a television news program with regard to giving chicken manure as feeds for the fishes produced in the province.

In a session held recently, Board Member Felix Ople of the 1st district cleared that the said chicken manure is intended for the preparation of the land to be used as fish ponds, “iyon po’y bilang pataba ng lupa sa palaisdaan, kaya ito po’y hindi ginagamit bilang feeds o pagkain.”

He said that the report saying “baka mapanganib at maging balakid sa kalusugan ang kakaining bangus na manggagaling sa lalawigan ng Bulacan” along with the undying issue regarding fish kill, created wrong impression to consumers.

Aside from the decreasing price of fish in markets, the PGB is also wary that the consumers will no longer patronize the Bulacan-produced fish, which is the only source of income of the fishermen in the province.

Fernando said.

Gloria Carillo, head of the Provincial Agriculture Office said that there is no need for the consumers to worry about fishes coming from Bulacan because the province strictly follows the recommendations and regulations made by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

At present, the fishponds covers 16,983.75 hectares or 6.47% of the province while the body of water covers 3,255 hectares or 1.24% of the province with an annual production of 30, 197.87 metric tons of milk fish. ###
