Bulacan marks Nutrition Month

CITY OF MALOLOS- Marking July as a momentous date for maternal and child health, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado launches the Nutrition Month with the theme “Isulong ang Breastfeeding: Tama, Sapat at EKslusibo” at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium recently.

“We aim to uplift the awareness of all the sectors of the society particularly the Bulakenyo mothers about the importance of breastfeeding for the nutrition and development of each child. Aside from that, we also prepared various programs to assure the nourishment of Bulakenyo children,” added Gov. Alvarado.

Among the activities scheduled for this month-long celebration are forums and seminars such as a symposium dubbed as Karangalan ng “Kababaihan sa Programa ng Nutrisyon”; training for Lingkod Lingap sa Nayon and Mother Leaders; Information Forum on Breastfeeding; and a forum/discussion about the proper caring for cancer patients.

Moreover, there will be nutrition parades, food festival, information forum and cooking contest to be held in the different schools from the cities and municipalities province-wide.
According to Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) head, Rowena Tiongson, they will also provide food assistance for a three-month period for 302 children who are identified as severe underweight out of the 620 children that were rehabilitated last year.
Children who will benefit from this program belong from age two to six years old coming from different parts of the province.

The event will conclude with an awarding of outstanding municipality, barangay and Lingkod Lingap sa Nayon who greatly contributed to the nutrition programs. ###
