CITY OF MALOLOS- Bulacan Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado will spearhead the simultaneous clean up drive and search and destroy operation against Dengue, along with all the local officials in the province tomorrow, August 26 at 7:00 in the morning.

The said program aims to further inform the people of the importance of being a responsible citizen in addressing problems which directly affect them.

Also joining on the activity initiated by the Provincial Government of Bulacan are the 569 barangays in the province, representatives from the national agencies such as PNP, volunteers and non-government organizations.

At exactly 7:00 am, all churches in Bulacan will concurrently ring their bells that signal the start of the clean up drive and search for possible breeding areas of mosquitoes including houses and their compounds, drainage canals, creeks, roads and even the river system.

“Hindi natin dapat katakutan ang mga lamok, bagkus puksain ang mga ito, dahil hindi tayo dapat pumayag na isang lamok lang ang papatay sa pinakamagandang likha ng Diyos, tayong mga tao,” said the governor.

Moreover, Alvarado calls to every Bulakenyo to be responsible in maintaining cleanliness in their areas to prevent Dengue carrying mosquitoes.

On the other hand, based on the reports from the Provincial Public Health Office, as of August 19, 2011 there were already 3,561 reported Dengue cases in the province.

Dengue is transmitted through the bite of an Aedes aegypti mosquito which is out every 4-7 in the morning and in the evening and breeds in stagnant water and dirty environment. Symptoms appear 3-14 days after the infective bite. Dengue fever is a febrile illness that affects infants, young children and adults. ###
