CITY OF MALOLOS- Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado encouraged the Filipinos to continue the unfinished revolution which started more than a century ago at the historical Barasoain Church as Bulacan commemorates the 113th Anniversary of Malolos Congress as part of the celebration of Singkaban Fiesta 2011 today in this city.

Makati Mayor Jejomar “Junjun” Binay Jr. also joined the local officials of Bulacan as he rekindled the importance of the Barasoain Church not only in the Philippine history but in our society as well.

Also, Serena Diokno, chairman of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, captured the imagination of the audience as she narrated what happened in the morning of Sept. 15, 1898 wherein the Malolos Congress was convened which paved way for the ratification of the Malolos Constitution at Barasoain Church, making Bulacan the seat of the first Constitutional Democracy in Asia.

Aside from the wreath laying, Dan S. Pangan, a renowned Bulakenyo artist, launched his book entitled “Evolution: Barasoain Church” which depicts the evolution of Barasoain church from the year 1859 to 2009.

The said event is made possible through the joint efforts of the Provincial Government of Bulacan, City of Malolos Government and National Historical Commission of the Philippines. ###
