Bulacan hosts CL Regional Skills Competition

CITY OF MALOLOS-Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado together with Sec. Joel Villanueva of the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) cuts the ceremonial golden chain using a blow torch to officially open the 2012 Central Luzon Regional Skills Competition with the theme “Galing at Talino, Specialista ‘Pagmalaki Mo” at the Capitol Gymnasium yesterday in this city.

According to Alvarado, Bulacan is honored to be the host of the regional skills competition because the event will give opportunities for the youths to hone their skills and represent the region in the National Skills Olympics and in international skills contest, which is under TESDA’s enabling law, it is mandated to promote quality skills development through Olympics.

“Malaking tulong ito para sa mga kababayan natin na gustong magkaroon ng magandang kinabukasan. Muli na naman maipapamalas ng ating mga kabataan at mamamayan ang taglay nilang galing at talino na in-demand ngayon sa ibang bansa,” Alvarado said.

Secretary Villanueva said that the ceremonial cutting of the chain and the lighting of the unity torch by the seven provincial directors of TESDA in Central Luzon symbolizes that Filipinos can excel in any fields and be the best skilled workers in any part of the world.

He said that this year’s regional competition will include the trainers so they can also compete alongside with their students.

Central Luzon TESDA regional director Teodoro M. Gatchalian said the students and their trainers will compete in different categories like mechanical engineering design, IT-software, welding, web design, electrical installation, cabinet making, joinery (furniture making and carpentry), ladies/men hairdressing, beauty therapy, automobile technology, cooking, restaurant service, refrigeration, graphic design, electronics, information network cabling, mechatronics and fashion technology.

Juan Lorenzo "Boy" Bautista of Tesda Bulacan said the two-day event will be filled with knowledge and friendly competition and that the winners will represent the region in the upcoming Philippine National Skills Olympics. ###
