CITY OF MALOLOS-Dancers from all over Luzon are expected to take part in the Sayaw Pinoy 2012: Luzon Dance Competition as Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado hosts this event in March 10, 2012 at 7 a.m. at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium in this city.

Alvarado said that it is a great opportunity for Bulacan to be chosen by the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts (NCAA) to be the venue of this cultural gathering where in dancers coming from Metro Manila, Baguio, Pampanga, Laguna, Olongapo and other provinces will all be present.

“As Bulakenyos, we are very proud of our rich cultural heritage, we are here to celebrate it through dance. We are also encouraging this young generation to show-off their talents and at the same time to keep in mind the lessons and learning that are embedded on our folk dances,” said Alvarado.

He also mentioned that aside from showcasing new talents, this event also aims to promote the tourism of Bulacan where other provinces can witness the beauty of the province physically and historically.

Elizabeth Alonzo, head of the Provincial Youth, Sports, Employment, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office (PYSEACTO), said that the contest will be held in two parts wherein the Folk Dance Category will be in the morning and the Contemporary and Hip Hop will be on the afternoon. Winners of each category will receive P20,000 for the champion, P15, 000 for the 2nd placer and P10,000 for the 3rd placer.

“After this, we are planning to hold a national dance competition on September in line with our Singkaban Fiesta celebration. This is a continuous advocacy to promote our arts and culture, and this time, we’re inviting everybody to take part, to dance,” added Alonzo. ###
