CITY OF MALOLOS- Department of Justice Secretary Leila De Lima joined yesterday the recognition of outstanding Bulakenya during the Gawad Medalyang Ginto 2012 at the Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center in this city.

De Lima, as the guest speaker, emphasized that the women’s role in nation building, their fundamental equality with men before the law and their exceptional contribution to the rest of the community are proofs that the women’s worth is now taken on a whole new dimension.

My mind is filled with memories of history lessons that speaks of accomplishments of such immortal historical figures like Trinidad Tecson known as Ina ng Biak na Bato and the 21 Women of Malolos,” De lima added.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado added that the Gawad Medalyang Ginto shows that the province of Bulacan had always been supportive and proud of its women.

Among the winners for the Gawad Medalyang Ginto sectoral category were Rowena Francisco of San Rafael as Matagumpay na Ginang ng OFW; Florentina Salonga from Plaridel as Matagumpay na Babaeng Makakalikasan; Segunda Bartolome from the City of San Jose del Monte as Matagumpay na Babaeng Mangangalakal; and the Municipality of Obando headed by Francisca Mendoza as Matagumpay na Konsehong Pambayan para sa Kababaihan 2012.

The “Natatanging Babae” award with P10, 000 cash prize were given to Emelita San Pedro from Angat for the Women Empowerment Award and Marilyn Baldivas of the City of Meycauayan for the Resource Generation Award, while the “Natatanging Samahang Pangkakabaihan” was awarded to the Soroptimist International of San Jose del Monte District III Club No. 170203. This outstanding organization headed by Fidelina Mier received P20, 000 as an incentive.

Eva Fajardo, chairman of the Panlalawigang Komisyon para sa Kababaihan ng Bulacan (PKKB), said that as of today, there are already 66 women and 14 organizations that had been awarded by this commission. Among the previous outstanding women awardees were former 4th District Rep. Reylina Nicolas and incumbent 4th District Rep. Linabelle Villarica. ###
