CITY OF MALOLOS- A celebration of beauty, culture and tradition will be witnessed today, May 25 in this city as the Provincial Government of Bulacan through the Provincial Youth, Sports, Education, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office (PYSEACTO) kicks off Bulaklakan 2012: Bulacan Santacruzan.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said that the celebration is Bulacan’s way of showing the devoutness of the province to Blessed Virgin Mary.

Alvarado added that Santacruzan also aims to preserve our ancestors’ religious rites and inculcate to the young Bulakenyos the value of Filipino tradition and practices.

“Kailangan din nating mapanatili at maipamalas ang magandang kultura at tradisyon ng ating lalawigan dahilan upang dayuhin ng mga turista ang ating lalawigan,” Alvarado said.

Binibining Pilipinas 2012 2nd runner up Annalie Forbes will be this year’s Reyna Elena.

Aside from Forbes, Reyna ng Aliwan 2011 2nd runner up Bernadette Chiu and the other 15 beauties representing five municipalities and different institutions will offer flowers to the Blessed Virgin Mary at the end of the procession.

Procession will start at 7 p.m. after the holy mass at the Barasoain Church and will end at the Bulacan Capitol Chapel.

Santacruzan is the highlight of the month-long celebration of Flores de Mayo during the month of May to honor the finding of the Holy Cross by Saint Helena, mother of Constantine the Great in Jerusalem. Introduced by the Spaniards, it is usually celebrated with a parade of decorated floats and elaborately dressed characters, representing various aspects of the Virgin Mary and other figures. ###
