CITY OF MALOLOS-Bulakenyos once again relived the patriotism and heroism of our ancestors as they participate in the commemoration of the 114th anniversary of the Philippine National Flag held in front of the Provincial Capitol yesterday.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said that said celebration rekindled the greatness of Filipinos who had sacrificed their lives to achieve freedom.

He also added that as a symbol of respect and recognition, the Philippine Flag will be displayed all year round in major thoroughfares in the province.

Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Chairman Joel Villanueva, the guest of honor, also joined Alvarado and other government officials in the flag raising and wreath-laying ceremony at the Gregorio Del Pilar Shrine.

He said the commemoration of Flag Day is not only to look back at the past but also an event which opened opportunities for all.

Moreover, Vice Gov. Daniel Fernando likened the Filipino people to the strong pole that firmly holds the flag to make it stand.

Meanwhile, the Barasoain Kalinangan Foundation uplifted the spirit of nationalism among the people as they showcased in their performance the evolution of the Philippine flag from the original flag of the Katipunan to the present Philippine Flag that Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo first unfurled in Alapan, Cavite on May 28, 1898.

The present Philippine Flag was designed by Aguinaldo and sewn by Doña Marcela Agoncillo, Lorenza Agoncillo and Delfina Herbosa de Natividad in HongKong. The celebration of the National Flag Day also marks the start of preparation for the Independence Day on June 12. ###
