CITY OF MALOLOS- President Benigno S. Aquino III recalled the historical significance of Barasoain Church as he led the celebration of the 114th Anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence.

He said that the vanguards of Philippine freedom during the old days had set a fine example of leadership by guiding the people towards the right direction and responsible citizenry.

He said that the celebration of the Philippine Independence next year would be held at Pinaglabanan for they want to make the celebration of Independence Day be felt by every Filipino not only those in Kawit but also those living in the far-flung areas and overseas.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said that it is the first time that the highest official of the Republic attended the Independence Day celebration at the historic Barasoain Church and he also praised Malacañang for giving total recognition and importance to the historic events that took place in Malolos at the threshold of Philippine freedom from foreign rule.

He also urged the people to always remember the significance of the three republics-the Republic of Real de Kakarong in Pandi, the Biak-na-Bato Republic in San Miguel and the Malolos Republic-in heart and in mind in order to preserve the sacrifices of Filipino patriots who shared their wisdom in drafting and ratifying the Malolos constitution which established the Philippines as the First Democratic Republic in Asia and Africa as well as courage of Filipino revolutionaries who shed blood, sweat and tears in their quest for genuine freedom and sovereignty from foreign rule.

“Sa muling pagtunog ng tambuli, muli nating tanggapin ang tungkulin na ipagtanggol ang ating kalayaan dahil ito’y isinulat ng sarili nating dugo,” the governor said.

He also said that coinciding the event are government services launched to the public such as the Hapinoy Program by the PESO Phil., Diskwento Caravan by the Department of Trade and Industry, jobs fair by the Department of Labor and Employment, and medical mission by the Provincial Public Health Office and the Department of Health.

Earlier, Dr. Maria Serena I. Diokno, chairman of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, said that this year’s theme “Kalayaan: Pananagutan ng Bayan para sa Tuwid na Daan” is in line with the administration’s program of good governance and eradication of corrupt practices in government. ###
