Alvarado calls for united action for environment protection

CITY OF MALOLOS— More than 500 Bulakenyos from various sectors will gather as Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado calls for an environmental summit on June 21, 2012 at 8 a.m. at the Hiyas Pavillion in this city.

Alvarado said that the assembly with the theme, “Effective Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation Program,” is part of their aggressive campaign against climate change and serious efforts to promote a balanced and healthful ecology.

“It is part of our 7-point Agenda to address the environmental issues concerning our province particularly climate change. We need to be prepared from any kind of disasters that may occur in our province,” said Alvarado.

Bulacan Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO) chief Atty. Rustico “Teddy’ De Belen said that among the topics that will be discussed are Disaster and Climate Change: Science, Impacts and Policy Responses; Managing Disaster Risk from Natural Hazards; Managing Risks from a Changing Climate; Katutubong Kaalaman pangkapaligiran, Hamon sa Makabuluhang Lipunan; and Legislative Actions Addressing the Emerging Disaster Risk Reduction and Climatge Change Agreement.

He also said that National Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Council (NDRRMC) Undersecretary Benito Ramos, Climate Change Commission Vice Chair Mary Ann Lucille Sering, Bulacan State University (BSU) President Mariano De Jesus, College of Social Science and Philosophy Dean Reynaldo Naguit and CIBAC Partylist Representative Sherwin Tugna will be the resource speakers of the summit.

This year’s environmental summit is in collaboration with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Bulacan Chapter and Bulacan State University. ###
