Bulacan to hold 2nd Asean Dengue Day

CITY OF MALOLOS- To help boost public awareness on the deadly disease called Dengue, the Provincial Government of Bulacan spearheaded by the Provincial Public Health office in coordination with the City Government of San Jose del Monte will hold the 2nd Asean Dengue Day at the covered court of Barangay Poblacion, CSJDM come June 29, 2012 at 8 in the morning.

The said city along with the 569 barangays in the province will do the clean-up campaign and posting of dengue billboards and other educational materials to be followed by a short program.

Recently, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado signed the Executive Order No. 2012-10, an order enjoining all Bulakenyos to celebrate Asean Dengue Day, it is stated there that with the country’s battle cry: “Aksyon Barangay Kontra Dengue, Pagtibayin!” The said EO emphasizes the community action against the disease giving importance to search and destroy mosquito-breeding places inside and outside of their houses.

Alvarado also clarifies in the EO that PGB acknowledges that there is a need to undertake sustained preventive and control measures to address the increase in dengue cases and its occurrence anytime of the year.

In addition, the governor added that to sustain the observance, every Friday of the week at 4:00 in the afternoon, all agencies, churches, establishments, academe and local government units are encouraged to conduct a simultaneous clean-up drive against dengue by adopting the 4S Strategy which includes: Seek early consultation; Search and destroy; Self protection; and Say no to indiscriminate fogging.

Also part of the program is the oath taking of the SJDM Dengue School Watch Teams, followed by community inspection, information dissemination and mosquito larva survey in the nearby areas.

Dr. Leonita T. Gorgolon, Director IV, DOH-CHD 3 is expected to grace the event.

Aside from these efforts to alleviate the plight of dengue affected families, the free 100 percent hospitalization and medication for dengue patients in the province is still ongoing.

Moreover, 27 school districts under DepEd Bulacan and 457 schools with 6,388 classrooms have been covered in the recently finished integration and implementation of dengue spraying in “Brigada Eskwela 2012”.

Based on the record of the Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit, as of January 2012, there are 1,588 reported dengue cases in the province with one death.

The Asean Dengue Day was declared by the ASEAN Health Ministers during the 10th ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting held in Singapore in July 22, 2010. ###
