CITY OF MALOLOS – In line with the observance of the 34th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week on July 17 – 23, 2012, the Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB) headed by Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado thru the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office and Provincial Council on Disability Affairs has lined up activities for differently-abled Bulakenyos.
With the theme “Mainstreaming Persons with Disabilities in Economic Development”, the celebration aims to promote, tackle barriers and gaps, facilitate stakeholders’ cooperation, develop innovative approaches and support human rights-based initiatives for the economic development of persons with disabilities (PWDs).
Moreover, Alvarado said the weeklong fete intends to stimulate public awareness on disability issues and concerns that will strengthen the involvement of the different government and non-governmental organizations and serve as the vehicle of information for programs being implemented for PWDs.
“Dito sa Bulacan, kaisa ang PWDs, matagal nang organisado ang nasabing sektor na naniniwalang hindi hadlang ang pagkakaroon ng kapansanan sa pagkamit ng kaunlaran sa lalawigan,” the governor added.
Lineup of activities include Harelip Operation dubbed as “Ngiti mo, Sagot namin” to be held at Baliwag District Hospital from July 15-17; Cultural and Variety Show entitled “Basta’t Bulakenyo kahit may K ok” at SM City, Baliwag, Bulacan scheduled at 1pm on July 19 and Search for Outstanding Municipality, City and Province Implementing PWDs programs on July 27, 2012.
The third week of July has been designated NDPR Week, by virtue of Proclamation No. 361 in August 2000, as amended by Administrative Order No. 35, dated May 3, 2002. It was originally declared thru Proclamation No. 1870, on June 22, 1978, to recognize Apolinario Mabini, the Sublime Paralytic, whose disabilities did not hinder him from contributing to the Philippine Revolution.
In addition, the Philippines’ National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) formerly National Council for the Welfare of Disabled Persons or NCWDP is the national government agency mandated to formulate policies and coordinate the activities of all agencies, whether public or private, concerning disability issues and concerns. ###
