CITY OF MALOLOS- Local government officials led by Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado work hand-in-hand with the Philippine National Police(PNP), Armed Forces of the Philippines, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and other non-government organizations as they conduct the simultaneous cleaning and patrolling of the Marilao-Meycauayan-Obando River System (MMORS) this morning.

“We would like to see our river system to be as beautiful as what we have 25 years ago. This is the proper time, or else it will be too late. We need to provide leadership and the political will to do what is right. Magkaisa po tayo upang sa lalong madaling panahon ay makita nating malinis at malanguyan muli ang ating mga kailugan,” said Alvarado.

He added that part of the pollution aggravating the rivers are coming from the industries of the neighboring cities of Metro Manila.

“Nangako naman si MMDA Assistant General Manager Atty. Emerson Carlos na pupulungin nila ang mga mayor sa Metro Manila upang magkaraoon ng inspeksyon sa mga industriya na nagtatapon sa mga kailugan na kung saan ay napupunta naman dito sa Bulacan,” the governor added.

The governor also said that while they are conducting the clean-up drive at Marilao River, City of Meycauayan Mayor Joan Alarilla and Obando Mayor Orencio Gabriel, coming from their respective areas, also did the same while announcing to the public the strict implementation of laws protecting the MMORS such as the Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.

The three groups convened at Barangay Saog, Marilao where the signing of the implementing rules and regulations of the Provincial Ordinance no. 2012-09 that prohibits the use of plastic in Bulacan and the commitment for MMORS rehabilitation was held. Joining them are Vice Governor Daniel Fernando, MMDA Assistant General Manager Atty. Emerson Carlos , City of San Jose del Monte Mayor Reynaldo San Pedro, Atty. Henry Villarica, EMB-DENR Regional Director Lormelyn Claudio, PNP Provincial Director P/Sr. Supt. Fernando Mendez Jr., 56th IB commader Col. Hilario Lagnada and other local officials.

“This activity is part of our long-term solution to erase the bad image that is associated with our MMORS. We are serious in making our vision a realization, and with the help of other government agencies and the citizens as well, I am positive that we can be successful in this project,” said Alvarado. ###
