CITY OF MALOLOS- Being the principal author and sponsor of Republic Act 9501 or the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Law, Senator Loren Legarda commended Bulacan for its support to the backbone of the Philippine economy during the launching of the first Builders’ Exposition or Buildex 2012 spearheaded by the Bulacan Chamber of Commerce and Industry with the Provincial Government of Bulacan.

"The 99.6 percent of the economy are the MSMEs which is why I am very thankful to all of you for helping strengthening the economy through greater support for this. This first Bulacan Builders’ Exposition is a perfect opportunity to engage all stakeholders in the housing and construction industry in a concrete response to the growing challenges of our time. This is a forum through which I can convey the role of our business leaders, engineers, and architects towards our aspiration for sustainable development," Legarda said.

DTI-Region 3, Regional Director Blesila Lantayona said that not one province in the Philippines is the same as Bulacan.

“Usually, ang gumagawa ng Buildex ay isang bansa but Bulacan has the courage to do this, hindi na tayo dapat magtaka dahil dito maraming successful businesses. BCCI is not only championing business but it also ensures that consumer’s money be spent wisely at their best,” said Lantayona.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado also praised the efforts of BCCI and said, “Everybody does better, this is one way to strike a deal for our business sectors and another to help promote the province as a place to invest. ‘Pag magkasama, marami tayong magagawa, ituloy natin ang partnership na ito at maraming buhay ang mababago.”

Moreover, to end her speech, Legarda stressed that what the country needs is a resilient development.

“Ang resilient development ay handa sa lahat ng sakuna. Hindi naman natin mapipigilan ang pagdating ng mga kalamidad pero kaya nating agapan ang epekto nito. The effects of these will not be disasters if we abide to our laws. Let’s not divide but provide unity. The time to act is now,” said the lady senator.

After the program, Legarda being an advocate of environmental projects gifted the province of Bulacan a seedling of mahogany tree and a book entitled A message of our time, collection of Sen. Legarda’s speeches regarding environment protection and climate change as symbols for her undying support to make the country clean, green and blue.

The three day expo will run until October 17, 2012 showcasing at least 80 participating exhibitors including property developers, contractors, architects, interior decorators, furniture and furnishings, construction supplies, home financing, landscaping and all the things needed to build a house.

BCCI President Gregoria Simbulan said this is just the beginning of a long journey.

“Nagsimula lamang ito sa isang pangarap hanggang sa magkatotoo, kaya naman hindi tayo dapat tumigil mangarap para sa higit pang ikauunlad ng bawat isa sa atin. Simula pa lang ito, marami pa tayong gagawin at sana hanggang sa huli magkakasama tayo,” said Simbulan. ###
