CITY OF MALOLOS— Bulacan Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado congratulates Mr. and Mrs. Bernardino Nuñes Sr. and Family for being recognized as one of the 2012 Gawad Saka Outstanding Achievers in Agriculture and Fisheries awarded by Pres. Benigno S. Aquino III at the Philippine Rice Research Institute, Muñoz, Nueva Ecija.

Alvarado said that Nuñez Family from San Rafael Bulacan received the award for the Outstanding Farmer/Fisherfolk Family category.

“They are good examples for Bulakenyo families for their determination, hard work and faith in God which helped them to achieve financial success through farming,” said Alvarado.

Bernardino Nuñez Sr. said that their family’s farm productivity started when they ventured into integrated farming and adopted new technologies.

“High Value Commercial Crop (HVCC) programs, one of which is the off season vegetable production of the agriculture office, opened the door for a profitable farming business. Using high quality vegetable seeds, plastic mulch, organic fertilizers and other inputs plus the technology learned from the trainings made us realize that vegetable production is a better source of income,” said Nuñez.

He added that other family members also ventured on integrated livestock production such as cow and carabao for breeding and milk production and mallard and chicken for meat and egg production which also serves as additional income generating project for the family.

“Out of our farming business, we now harvest the fruits of our labor and sacrifices,” added Nuñez. ###
