BMC’s maternal and child health care to benefit from PhilHealth run

CITY OF MALOLOS- Four thousand Bulakenyos will play a part in elevating the maternal and child health care of the Bulacan Medical Center (BMC) after registering and committing to join in the first simultaneous nationwide running event dubbed as Philippine Health Insurance Corporation Run 2013: Nationwide Run for Mother and Child Protection on February 17, 4 o’clock in the morning, starting at Malolos Convention Center in this city.

The said run which marks PhilHealth’s 18 years of service aims to raise funds to support organizations and institutions geared for maternal and child health care.

Bulacan Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said that Malolos is one of the 18 sites included in the simultaneous run across the nation and part of the proceeds will be donated to the OB-Gyne Department of BMC.

“Lubos na nagagalak ang aking puso sapagkat napili ang BMC na maging beneficiary ng PhilHealth Nationwide Run. Sa ngalan ng mga Bulakenyo, ako ay taus pusong nagpapasalamat sa PhilHealth at sa lahat ng Bulakenyo na makikiisa sa gawaing ito,” Alvarado said.

Other major cities included in the run are Manila, Baguio, Dagupan, Tuguegarao, Clark, Sta. Rosa, Batangas, Legazpi, Iloilo, Cebu, Tacloban, Zamboanga, Iligan, Davao, Koronadal, Butuan, and Marawi.

Meanwhile, Vice President Rodolfo Balog of PhilHealth Regional Office III said that the fund raising event is open to all-Filipino and even non-Filipinos who are in good health condition.

Balog added that race categories include 3K kiddie and students, 3K adult, 5K, 10K and 18K run. Also, registration can be done via online at https://run2013.philhealth.gov.ph, through walk in at PRO III or at any Local Health Insurance Office near run site.

Registration fees start at P250 for 3K kiddie, students and adult; P300 for 5K, P500 for 10K; and P600 for 18K.

Meanwhile, in a press conference of PhilHealth held at the Regional Office III, PhilHealth Branch A Manager Arsenia Torres proudly announced that 76% of the population in Central Luzon is insured by the said health insurance.

“We wanted to attain universal health coverage in Central Luzon kaya gumawa kami ng ilang mga programa upang mahikayat ang natitirang 24% na maging miyembro ng PhilHealth,” Torres said.

Torres added that there is also a health insurance program for the informal sector group.

“This informal sector group program is an organized group enrollment approach. We are targeting the jeepney drivers, vendors and employees under contractual status,” Torres said.

According to Presidential Proclamation No. 1400 s. 2007, February is declared as the National Health Insurance Program Month which aims to enjoin all sectors to support PhilHealth’s mandate of universal coverage.###
