CITY OF MALOLOS – Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado and Bulacan Agricultural State College (BASC) President Gerardo Mendoza signed a memorandum of agreement which gives way for a partnership between the Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB) and BASC on the implementation of the project “Establishment of Carabao Demo/Nucleus farm at BASC”.

Alvarado, during the opening ceremony of the Five Pillars of Justice at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium, said that the project will operate with a budget of P5 million at P1 million per year for five years.

“We are concern about the welfare of our farming communities in the province. We received reports that the prevalence of native breeding stocks of carabao among raisers is one of the slowing factors in the province’s further growth of livestock industry. To address this, we entered into this project that will develop improved breed of carabao for dispersal to the farmers in the community,” the governor said.

He added that BASC will surrender all female offsprings produced by the Demo/Nucleus Farm to PGB which later on will be distributed to farmer beneficiaries.

“Aside from the carabaos, this project also aims to establish linkages with stakeholders and introduce alternative feed technologies to the farmers,” the governor added.

Mendoza said that it will also benefit the students of BASC since it will also serve as a laboratory facility for students of Agriculture, Animal Science and other allied programs.

Also, the governor together with Director Remedios Ongtangco of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources distributed 95 units of marine engines to fisher folks from the City of Malolos and coastal towns of Hagonoy, Paombong, Obando, and Bulakan.

“Bahagi ito ng ating Fisher Folk Input Assistance Program kung saan makikinabang ang ating mga maliliit na mangingisda upang matulungan silang paunlarin pa ang kanilang kabuhayan,” he added. ###
