CITY OF MALOLOS –Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Sec. Manuel Roxas II inspire Bulakenyos to celebrate the annual Singkaban Fiesta with heroism in mind.

Roxas, as the guest speaker of the opening ceremony of Singkaban 2013 held in front of the Provincial Capitol building this morning, said that aside from the jovial festivity, it is also the time to revive the commitment of each Bulakenyo in nation building.

He added that the sincere fight against poverty and corruption does not only happen once a year, it is a daily battle and everyone must respond to the challenge.

Tuloy ang panawagan, kung walang kurap, walang mahirap,” he said.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado after expressing gratitude to Roxas’ message, said that the DILG secretary is an epitome of an outstanding Bulakenyo and worthy of being awarded as the “Tanging Dangal ng Lipi” which is the highest honor given to a Bulakenyo by the Provincial Government of Bulacan.

He also explained that the Singkaban Fiesta serves as an inspiration to the public that like Roxas, Bulakenyos will also be excellent and outstanding on their endeavors no matter what field they are in.

The governor also added that the annual celebration is a memento of the rich cultural heritage, artistry and uniqueness of each Bulakenyo that their ancestors had left.

He added that they also opened different exhibits and trade fairs that are conveniently located within the capitol compound. Among them are the Bulakenyo Trade Fair which is a display of Bulacan products like sweets and delicacies, gifts, toys, clothes, bags and fashion accessories; Manlilikhang Bulakenyo which features Bulakenyo inventors and demonstration of their inventions; Dakilang Bulakenyo and Lakan Sining Exhibit which will recount the life and contributions of Mariano Ponce in commemoration of his 150th birth anniversary and an exhibition of Bulakenyo visual artists; and Sining sa Hardin which will show performances of Bulakenyo artists and the Hiyas ng Bulacan Brass Band.

They also re-launched the Bulacan Pasalubong Center and Bulacan Packaging Service and Toll Packing Center to draw the attention of the public on the services they offer.

Many people also visited the Bulacan Food Festival Exposition (BUFFEX) that is a gathering of the sectors involved in food production in Bulacan, its partners and down-stream industries. The activity also includes selling, food sampling, on-the-spot cooking demo, “Chefs on Parade” and other competitions.
