CITY OF MALOLOS— More than 200 pieces of squared logs and flitches are confiscated after the Provincial Multi-Sectoral Anti-illegal Logging Task Force (PAILTF) conducted a two-day operation at the mountainous part of the City of San Jose Del Monte, Norzagaray and Rodriguez, Rizal from July 16 to 17.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said that the operation was conceptualized during the meeting of the PAILTF last June 19 at the Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center wherein three groups will cover a specified location within Sitio Ilas, San Jose Del Monte; Sitio Matae, San Mateo, Norzagaray; and Sitio Esti, Macaingalan, Rodriguez, Rizal.

“This is a big catch but we still have to intensify and improve our strategy against those who are destroying our forest. This is just the tip of the ice berg, we are facing a sophisticated group but we will give them no quarter in our desire to save the forest-cover of our watershed and mountains,” Alvarado said.

He added that the volume of abandoned logs found within the critical areas of the watershed at Sitio Ilas and Sitio Esti could sum up to 5,000 board feet and can amount to P200,000.

“Ang mga nakumpiska na mga iligal na troso ay gagamitin upang gawing silya para sa mga paaralan, nang sa gayon ay makinabang pa rin ang mga Bulakenyo,” said Alvarado.

The governor also said that the task force had intensified its operations after it was created in November last year.

“We must step-up our strategies with the cooperation of all concerns not only in Bulacan but also in the neighboring provinces of Rizal and Nueva Ecija. We must protect our watershed because we are not talking of price here, every single tree is priceless. If we lost the trees, the water supply of Metro Manila will be threatened. Bulacan water is giving life to residents of Metro Manila,” the governor said.

Bulacan Environment and Natural Resources Officer Eugenio Payungayong said that the task force is headed by the governor and composed of BENRO, DENR, NPC-AWAT, AFP, PNP and Sagip Sierra Madre Environmental Society. ###
