Bulacan Blood Council to recognize 200 blood donors

CITY OF MALOLOS- Two hundred Bulakenyo blood galloners and partners will be given recognition by the Provincial Government of Bulacan through the Bulacan Local Blood Council (BLBC) on July 30, 10 am at the Pavilion, Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center in this city.

BLBC President Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said the awarding ceremony for the blood galloners is a way of returning the favor to the awardees’ good deed of voluntarily donating blood to the Bulakenyos who are in dire need of blood.

Alvarado also added that the said annual award honors the BLBC’s partners which ensure a sustainable supply of blood at all times.

“Mahalaga ang pag-dodonate ng dugo. Bukod sa nakatutulong ito upang madugtungan ang buhay ay maganda din ang naidudulot nito sa mismong nagbibigay ng dugo. Tandaan natin na ang dugo ay buhay at nakapagbibigay ng buhay,” the governor said.

According to Provincial Health Officer Jocelyn Gomez, the galloner award will be conferred to donors who donated nine or more blood units while local government units (LGUs) and partners with the highest collection of blood units and LGUs with 100% participation on a mobile blood donation will also be recognized.

“As the Department of Health put an order in stopping all commercial blood banks in selling bloods and secure all bloods used by patients for blood transfusion and survival, the endeavor for a mobile blood donation activities in all LGUs was strengthened to answer the blood needs of government and private hospitals in the province. These collected blood undergoes quality blood processing-testing and screening for an available safe blood, “Gomez said.

Meanwhile, National Center for Health Facility Development Director Juanito Taleon is expected to grace the event while Ret. Col. Pepito Plamenco will give the response as the blood galloner awardee.

Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 1021 dated July 9, 1997, the National Blood Donor’s Month aims to build public awareness of the need for quality and safe blood, honor and recognize blood donors, and encourage regular blood donation both at hospital and community level. ###
