CITY OF MALOLOS – The 3rd ASEAN Dengue Day celebration held at the Tanghalan ng Sining at Kultura, commonly known as the Mini-forest in this city was filled not only with entertainment and action but also with hope that thru the joint efforts of the Department Health, the Provincial Government of Bulacan and all the Bulakenyos, dengue will eventually be eradicated.

DOH Asec. Eric Tayag said the occasion is not meant to celebrate dengue but the sure success in the fight against the said deadly disease.

Tayag said.

The DOH assistant secretary also said that Bulacan is one of the provinces with good research surveillance and announced the efforts of experts to find cure against dengue in the near future.

“In two years’ time pwede na natin magamit ‘yung anti-dengue vaccine, ‘yung pag-aaral sa tawa-tawa on going pa din, sa isang University sa Australia pinag-aaralan ang wolbakya kung saan isang lamok ang pakakawalan na infected nito sa gayon hindi na sila tatablan ng dengue at ang pakikipag-ugnayan ng DOH sa DOST para sa Rapid Dengue Test, ito ‘yung mga ginagawa natin para sa lalong medaling panahon,” said Tayag.

Based on the reports of DOH in their Dengue Surveillance Update 2013, there were 3,063 dengue cases in Region 3 as of June 15. This is 54.45% lower than the same period last year but sadly announced that Bulacan is the top among the provinces with dengue cases with 973 where two people died.

Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado.

Vice Gov. Daniel Alvarado also announced the recently signed resolution of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan or the Kapasiyahan Blg. 115T2013 that encourages all the government, non-government agencies and the public to do extensive search and destroy strategies in the upcoming rainy season.

The program also highlighted other activities which include the distribution of larvicide to Department of Education representatives, an open forum and the dance and jump of the government and health officials that symbolize their urge to fight dengue.

Last activity of the program was the Walk for Dengue wherein they went house-to-house and conducted search and destroy operation with the local officials, private organizations, business sector, schools, church, communities and the media. ###
