Bulakeños celebrate the 115th Malolos Congress anniversary

CITY OF MALOLOS – The celebration of the 115th Anniversary of the Malolos Congress will seal the weeklong festivity of Singkaban 2013 wherein Hon. Franklin Drilon, Senate President of the Republic of the Philippines will be the guest speaker on September 15, 2013 at 7 a.m. in Barasoain Church in this city.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said that this event aims to relive the great contributions of Bulakeños in the past that will help rekindle the patriotism and love for the country.

“Kung ang bawat isa ay magmamahal sa bayan katulad ng ginawa ng ating mga dakilang bayani, palagay ko mag-iiba ang takbo ng ating pamumuhay, kung ang bawat isa ay matututong gumalang sa bayan tulad ng ating mga ninuno, sa tingin ko matututunan din ng iba na higit tayong igalang, para makausad, kailangan din nating lumingon sa nakaraan para makita kung saan tayo papunta sa hinaharap,” Alvarado said.

The program will start with the arrival of honors for the guest speaker followed by the flag raising ceremony; wreathe laying ceremony in honor of then president Emilio Aguinaldo and a short program.

Other invited guests as are senior citizens, students, teachers, non-government organizations, local government employees and other sectors of the society in Bulacan.

The Malolos Congress was drafted by 85 delegates comprised by 43 lawyers, 17 doctors, five pharmacists, three educators, seven business men, a priest and four farmers. The constitution was completed after four months which led to the declaration of the first democratic republic in Asia on January 23, 1899.

Meanwhile, also part of the culminating activities is the annual Dangal ng Lipi Awards which recognizes outstanding Bulakenyos at 6 p.m. at the Hiyas Pavilion. ###
