CITY OF MALOLOS – National agencies and the Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB) thru the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) will continue to join hands in implementing a yearly feeding program to retain the nutritional status among children ages 0 to 71 months especially the malnourished ones.

Before the observance of Nutrition Month with the theme “Gutom at malnutrisyon, sama-sama nating wakasan” this July, the PSWDO already implemented three programs with regard to nutrition, (1) feeding of pre-schoolers in the Day Care Centers; (2) conduct of Grade One Feeding Program from October 2012 to February 2013, wherein free nutria-notebook with nutritional guidelines were distributed; and (3) Augmentation Program or counter parting to different municipalities that conduct feeding programs.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said 36,000 children from 820 day care centers benefited from the whole year feeding program.

Meanwhile, the PSWDO report shows that 70,000 grade one pupils were given free food.

The governor also emphasized the importance of nutrition program for the youth who are considered the ‘hope of the future’.

Rowena Joson-Tiongson, head of PSWDO, said that aside from the programs of the PGB, there are also non-government organizations that support and implement the same projects.

Meanwhile, she added that the incoming celebration of Nutrition Month next month is also for mothers.

Bulacan is nominated for the National Honor Awards for Nutrition Program this year for its efforts to eliminate malnutrition in the province. ###
