LUNGSOD NG MALOLOS — The Philippine Team Sepak Takraw brought home medals for winning in the 28th Kings Cup Sepak Takraw World Championship held at Convention Hall, Central Plaza Udon Thani province, Thailand last September 16-22, 2013.

The only Bulakeña member of the RP team, Chiqui Dionisio, from Poblacion, Sta. Maria, Bulacan proudly went to Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado’s office to give courtesy call.

She told the governor that with 28 countries and over 600 athletes who participated in the event, they did not expect to bring home medals for the country.

“Pinaghandaan naman talaga namin yung laban na ‘to pero sobrang saya, iba pa rin talaga yung pakiramdam nung nandon na tinatanggap na namin yung mga award na nakuha namin” Dionisio said.

RP Women won one silver and two bronze medals while the RP Men received one gold, silver and bronze for the country.

“Sa ngayon ang pinaghahandaan naman ng team ay yung 27th SEA games this coming December sa Myanmar, at umaasa kami na makapag-uuwi kami ulit ng karangalan para sa Pilipinas,” Dionisio added.

Alvarado said that every honor that a Bulakeño brings is a tribute to the country.

“Natutuwa tayo na nagsisikap ang ating mga kababayan na magbigay-karangalan hindi lang sa lalawigan kundi para sa bansa, sana magsilbi silang inspirasyon para mangarap at kumilos din ang iba pa nating kababayan lalo na ang mga kabataan,” Alvarado said.

The Philippine Team Sepak Takraw is under the Philippine Sports Commission.

Sepaktakraw or kick volleyball is a sport native to the Malay-Thai Peninsula using a rattan ball and only allowing players to use their feet, knee, chest and head to touch the ball. It is a popular sport in Southeast Asia.###
