CITY OF MALOLOS - The Provincial Government of Bulacan headed by Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado and Vice Gov. Daniel Fernando handed the P 2.5 million worth of checks to the mayors of five affected municipalities of typhoon Yolanda in East and Western Samar on Monday, March 17 in this city.

The municipalities of Giporlos, Balangiga, Lawaan, Quinapondan in Easter Samar and Marabut in Western Samar received P500,000 each.

Alvarado said the cash donations in the Tulong Bulakenyo sa mga Nasalanta ng Bagyong Yolanda project of the PGB came from Bulakenyo students, employees and all of the local stakeholders including children who have smashed their piggy banks to help the typhoon victims.

He also said that this is one way of giving back because when the province of Bulacan was hit by severe flooding, the people of the Visayan Region did not forget the people of Bulacan.

The governor said that last November 23-28, a 104 man delegation composed of doctors, nurses, rescue and relief volunteers went to the said towns on board buses and trucks to aid the typhoon victims.

Aside from the checks, Alvarado said relief goods donated by the people of Bulacan will also be given to the mayors of the devastated region.

Mayor Mark Biong of Giporlos, Mayor Viscuso Lira of Balangiga, Mayor Candida Gabornes of Lawaan, Mayor Nedito Campo of Guinapondan and Mayor Percival Ortillo of Marabut personally received the checks from Alvarado at the governor’s office.

Ortillo said that the help given by the people of Bulacan will forever remain in the heart of his townsmen.

Viscuso on his part said the people of Samar will always remember the people of Bulacan as “Good Samaritans” who came to their aid when they were down and needed help.

Alvarado at Vice Gov. Daniel Fernando. ###
