Bulacan readies different emergency drills

CITY OF MALOLOS – The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office is set to hold fire, earthquake and dam break orientation and drills to at least 2,000 students and teachers at Marcelo H. Del Pilar National High School, Sta. Isabel, City of Malolos tomorrow March 21, 2014, at 9:00 in the morning.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said the activity which is part of the Fire Prevention Month aims to educate and increase the students and teachers’ awareness on disaster prevention particularly the contingency plan in place if tragedies occurs such as fire, earthquake and dam break.

“Ang lalawigan ay isa sa mga madalas na dinadaanan ng kalamidad tulad ng pagbaha, gayundin ng sunog partikular na ang insidente ng grassfires kung saan may naitala paring insidente ng sunog na 299 sa dalawang buwan na Enero at Pebrero ng taong kasalukuyan sa lalawigan sa kabila ng pagpapaigting ng mga programa ukol dito,” he added.

Meanwhile, the local government units’ representatives including the Water District managers in the province as well as the fire marshals held yesterday its Fire Prevention Education Campaign meeting. They discussed the importance of preparedness, vigilance at all times, and readiness to respond to those affected of various disaster or emergency.

In addition, the governor said the students should be taught how to respond if faced with disasters or emergencies to reduce casualties and prevent loss of lives and properties.

“The Provincial Government of Bulacan has a disaster preparedness plan, marapat lamang na kung ang ating lalawigan o lugar ay may hazards, maghanda at maging alerto, at ang anumang kaalamang natutunan ay isabuhay o gawin nang tama,” Alvarado said. ###
