CITY OF MALOLOS – With a common purpose of saving lives and reviving the spirit of volunteerism, hundreds of Bulakenyos participated in the Bloodletting Activity spearheaded by Vice Gov. Daniel R. Fernando held at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium in this city yesterday.
Dubbed as Dugong Filipino: Dugong Alay Ng Bulakenyo (DAN-Bulakenyo), the bloodletting activity was made possible with the cooperation of the Provincial Public Health Office and Bulacan Provincial Blood Center (BPBC) to help people who are in need of blood transfusions.
“Nakatutuwang isipin na tayo’y laging handa na tumulong sa ating mga kapwa na nangangailangan ng tulong. Naipakita natin na sa paraan ng pagdo-donate ng dugo, nakapagdugtong na tayo ng buhay,” Fernando said.
Based on the records, a total of 188 donors from the Provincial Government of Bulacan and other civilians had registered and expressed their enthusiasm to donate blood but only 118 donors were able to pass the screening process.
The collected bags of blood will be deposited to the Bulacan Provincial Blood Center that will eventually be used by Bulacan Medical Center for various medical purposes and to help patients who are in dire need of blood.
Meanwhile, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado congratulated Fernando for a successful project that relived the spirit of volunteerism of Bulakenyos through blood donation and for encouraging them to stay healthy.
Donors were given certificates and t-shirts in recognition for their support and cooperation to the event that was conducted coinciding the celebration of Fernando’s birthday. ###
